This unique marathon was launched in 2012 and proclaimed a huge success by runners and organisers in its aim of being Wales’ best trail marathon. The course takes in fully marked trail single track, forest roads and paths in some of the most stunning forestry and heathland in the UK.

But don’t take our word for it, as here are just a couple of quotes from runners who took part in the 2016 event:

“Well I have to start off by saying that Trail Marathon Wales was one of the best if not the best organised race I’ve attended. Everything was perfect including the weather, we even had cow bells. I may never get to run the UTMB, but the supporters were just as encouraging” - Darren Hutchings

“What a fantastic event! My first time doing the half but hopefully not the last. I loved everything about it from the rifle start to the uphill finish! The course was tough but stunning views & lovely downhills made it worth it, not to mention the atmosphere was amazing.” - Karen Devanney

Entry for the 2017 event opens on 1st of September, 2016, and organisers expect the places for the 2017 event to fill up fast. Places will be limited to 500 runners in the marathon and 700 runners in the half marathon. Priced at £36 for the full and £26 for the half distance event (plus online booking fee and £2 NRW levy) we feel that Trail Marathon Wales still represents one of the best value-for-money events on the race calendar.

Please note*

In 2016 Natural Resources Wales have introduced a facilities fee for all event organisers. This fee of £2 per runner is ploughed back into the Coed y Brenin centre, trails and other facilities to enable greater development and an even better experience for the runner at Coed y Brenin.

Runners must be aged 17 or over on the race day for the half marathon and 18 years or over for the full marathon.

This year upon entry you will also get the opportunity to buy a race hoody, which will be picked up on race weekend and be able to make a donation to our charity partner South Snowdonia Search and Rescue Team

We will also once again be hosting the TMW Welcome Party priced at £10 on the Friday evening (17th June) at the new Coed y Brenin visitor conference centre. The evening will give you the opportunity to register, enjoy a buffet meal, a chance to mingle with fellow competitors, and meet some special guest athletes on the night – with give aways and an additional TMW Welcome Party goody bag. We will also have a trail running film premiere on the night too.

The entry fee includes entry to the race, commemorative race t-shirt, an exclusive commemorative Salomon Trail Marathon Wales wooden coaster, participant race bag, free car parking (at the event overflow car park) plus other goodies!

We are also working closely with Natural Resources Wales at Coed y Brenin to deliver what will be a race weekend to remember once in again in 2016!

The Salomon Trail Marathon Wales utilises as many local suppliers and contractors as possible and aim to ensure that the local economy and mid-Wales community is affected in positive manner by the event, with that support hopefully being reciprocated ensuring that Trail Marathon Wales is an event that the local and national Welsh community can be proud of in one of the most beautiful areas of the UK.

Being on a Saturday, we also hope that may runners and families will stay on for the weekend in one of the numerous local hostels, cabins, hotels and bed and breakfasts that surround Coed y Brenin. Our Useful Links page is a great place to start to book your accommodation.
